ABSTRACT

Valproic acid (VPA) is one of the most frequently prescribed antiepileptic drugs for idiopathic generalized epilepsy, chronic or migraine headache, and bipolar disorder; however concerns about teratogenic effects have resulted in limited usage of the drug in women of childbearing potential. The aim of this review was to assess the current status of recommendations for the use of VPA according to international drug commissions and other recent reports.
